Spring Dreams: The Details that Make Your Heart Skip

Spring Dreams: The Details that Make Your Heart Skip | Creative Tonic Design

Spring has us dreaming about details!!

And judging by how much you’ve loved our recent posts, you feel the same way!

There’s something magical about the small touches that make a room truly sing. Whether it’s a detail that carries personal meaning, adds an unexpected pop of extra, or showcases extraordinary craftsmanship, I’ve always believed it’s this care and attention that separates a beautiful space from an unforgettable one. With that in mind, I’m sharing some of my favorite extra touches from recent projects — I hope they make your heart flutter as much as they do mine!!

In this dreamy nursery, the scalloped edges on both the bookshelves and the roman shade might seem like a small detail, but that kind of repetition is exactly what ties a space together visually. And you know I can’t resist a custom lampshade made from the same fabric and trim used elsewhere in the room!

Our Enchanted Lakefront project is absolutely brimming with over-the-top details, in the very best way. You may have already caught a glimpse of it through House Beautiful‘s home tour or their fun take on translating the best-dressed at the Oscars into home design, but let me walk you through some of my personal favorites!

In the guest retreat, we went all in on immersion, wrapping everything in the same pattern, from the wallpaper to the upholstery to the lampshades, for an experience that feels like stepping inside a painting. In the primary suite, the botanical motif that winds its way throughout the home shows up even in the smallest of moments. (Hint: look closely at the book titles on the bedside table and the pattern on that gorgeous ceramic lamp — they’re in on it too!) And speaking of botanicals, the butterflies make a surprise appearance in the kitchen’s built-in china cabinet, peeking out playfully from behind the homeowner’s cherished collection.

Then there’s the living room sofa … and while bouillon fringe may not be strictly botanical, I simply couldn’t leave it out. You know how I feel about a good passementerie moment!

Speaking of details that make your heart sing, The Redbird House is full of thoughtful, personal design, and I could talk about it all day! And, you can read more about this stunning project in Southern Home this very month!!

Start with the primary bath, where the passementerie trim on the chair is the kind of quietly exquisite touch you might almost miss … but then can’t stop looking at. In the dining room, the custom de Gournay wallpaper is even more than it appears at first glance. Little references to the homeowner and the home are sprinkled throughout, like the monkey delivering a personally addressed envelope! And then there’s the powder bath … that glorious, maximalist pink paradise, where even the sink has a secret: a Greek key detail tucked right inside the basin, waiting to be discovered.

That’s one of my favorite things about design: the magic is often hiding in plain sight!

Our last stop is a project we can’t wait to officially share with you soon, but we couldn’t resist giving you a little preview of some of our favorite details!

First, the entryway bench: look closely at the millwork on the bench itself. That kind of custom craftsmanship is easy to walk right past, but it is exactly the sort of thing that gives a space its quiet sense of quality and intention. In the living room, the mahjong table is surrounded by its own charming little drink stands at each corner, beacause a proper game night (or afternoon!) deserves a proper place to set your wine. And in the homeowner’s needlepoint room, every detail, from the lampshade to the accessories, nods to her passion for the craft that gives the room its name. It’s personal, it’s playful, and it’s exactly the kind of storytelling we live for.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what all of these details really are — tiny love letters to the people who live in these spaces. And that makes my heart sing!!
